What happened in Iași

On October 1st, at Cinema Ateneu in Iași, we closed out the Zile cu Sens – Artă în Mișcare marathon with a cultural experience dedicated to seniors and young people from the community.

The event was built around a film evening, a setting that brought together different generations through a shared experience of reflection and emotion.

Participants watched the art documentary „Van Gogh: Poeți și amanți”, directed by David Bickerstaff, made in collaboration with the National Gallery in London.

The film explores a key period in the artist's life, offering a deep look into his feelings and creative process.

The gathering was a quiet one, yet full of meaning — a moment where people sat together, watched, felt, and shared the same experience.

The event was organized by Asociația POT SĂ AJUT, with the support of Asociația Provident pentru Educație and Provident Financial România, as part of the Invizibilii program.

Why it matters

Not all forms of connection are active or visible.

Sometimes closeness between people builds quietly — through an experience shared together.

Through events like this, we give seniors access to culture and to contexts where they can:

  • step out of routine
  • discover new things
  • share emotions and perspectives

Taking part in cultural experiences contributes to well-being and a sense of belonging.

How it was for participants

I hadn't been to the movies in a long time. It made me think about a lot of things, and I liked being together with other people.

Ioana, 70, pensioner

It was quiet, but a beautiful kind of quiet. I felt like I wasn't alone.

Dumitru, 74, pensioner

About Artă în Mișcare

The event in Iași is part of the marathon organized for the International Day of Older Persons, held simultaneously in several cities across Romania.

The Artă în Mișcare concept brings together different forms of expression — dance, theatre, music, painting, or film — through which seniors stay active and connected to the community.

Nationwide, more than 800 seniors took part in activities built around art and social interaction.

Impact

Initiatives like this create contexts where people feel included and connected.

Through cultural experiences shared together, participants:

  • broaden their perspectives
  • express their emotions
  • reconnect with others
  • regain their interest in cultural activities

These moments contribute to deeper well-being and to reducing feelings of isolation.
